Each year, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation brings together our community of supporters, families, researchers, clinicians, advocates, innovators, and partners who share a belief that the future for people with cerebral palsy can and should be different. On October 6, World Cerebral Palsy Day, we will come together in New York City to celebrate how far we have come, recognize extraordinary individuals through our annual awards, and help fuel the breakthroughs still ahead.
We are at an extraordinary moment.
More than 50 million people worldwide and over 1 million people in the United States live with cerebral palsy. For generations, families, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and supporters have worked to improve outcomes, advance knowledge, and create greater opportunities for people with cerebral palsy. Their determination has brought us to an exciting inflection point.
Advances in neuroscience, regenerative medicine, stem cell science, artificial intelligence, genetics, neuroprotection, early detection, and intervention are creating possibilities that were unimaginable just a generation ago. We are identifying cerebral palsy earlier. We know more about which interventions can change developmental trajectories. New technologies are expanding communication, mobility, and independence. And an emerging pipeline of research is exploring prevention, new treatments, and pathways toward cures.
